Fall planting is upon us!
I say that as if I’m a farmer and really doing something serious, but we city folk just plant some fall flowers. It’s a requirement in my neighborhood to have mums on the porch in the fall. Didn’t you know? haha!
Have you ever heard of filling large pots with rocks or sand or something in the bottom? It’s so you don’t have to use (and waste) so much potting soil. Plus, depending on what you use, it can make the pot much lighter to carry.
I just wanted to share with you all what I did with this year’s pots!
I hoard packaging stuff. Just ask my husband…or anyone who has been in our garage! There is a pile of boxes with bubble wrap and packing paper, because you never know when you will need a box!
Anyway, I needed something for the bottom of my planters and found that the air packs work perfectly! Not only to they take up a lot of room, but they are light as air (obviously). My planters are so much lighter now!
Here are some other things I have used to fill pots….
Packing peanuts in grocery bags (place the bags upside down so water won’t get in)…
You can do this even with smaller pots. if you I don’t need that much room (which I almost always don’t!).
Happy Fall!

I sure do miss planting pretty flowers, but they all die here. Your flowers are looking pretty and those ideas are very innovative! 🙂 Happy Fall!
