Home for Christmas

Happy Holidays everyone! I hope everyone had a nice Christmas! As my title implies, we stayed home, and didn’t have any company this year! I still did all the usual decorating and baking, I just didn’t have many people to admire it! Ha ha!

You might have noticed the absence of a mantle or decorating blog like last year’s Holiday Home Tour , but everything was basically the same so I didn’t see the point in doing it again. The joys of a new house….the first year is an exciting adventure in decorating…subsequent years is just a repeat since you know where everything goes! 😉

There were a few changes and additions this year though. For starters, my mantle was different.

I tried to simplify it and just put the lights, swag garland, and the stocking holders. My poinsettias hadn’t fully bloomed yet, so I swapped them for a new sled and some new Santa’s from last years After-Christmas sales!

Then I finished each end with these awesome candles holders we got in Germany last year! I love them!

The corner shelf unit got a make-over too.  Most of my candle holders ended up here, along with a faux chalkboard sign that I just printed out! 🙂

Once again, our card tree runneth over with all the wonderful cards from our family and friends! So much so, that I had to start putting some on the mantle, the tv stand, the console table…everywhere! 🙂

And although I absolutely love the pictures we get ever year, I am so glad that some people still believe in sending an old-fashioned holiday card! There really is nothing like a beautiful card with a hand-written note to say “I thought of you and Merry Christmas”! (Yes, I am aware that we sent picture cards this year, but I’m going to stop that shit right away!) 🙂

Speaking of cards…we ran out of our picture cards so some people got a card from yesteryears. So if you didn’t get the picture card, here it is!
I had planned to make this star this year and put it over the mantle, but we found a hand-carved medallion that we loved instead! I still made the star, but it got a spot outside instead!
I just made it out of some downed branches from the backyard, with some burlap twine, florists wire, and a set of lights–all which I had on hand already.
I formed the star on the ground, weaving sticks above and below, and secured each joint with some twine. Then I added the lights, making sure that my plug would start in a bottom corner, and secured each joint with green florists wire. A hanger made out of some heavy gauge wire completed it! I love how it turned out!
J used different lights on the roofline this year, and we had some red lights to put on the railing. They go good with our holly bushes!
That’s the last of the changes!
We had our traditional Chinese (Japanese) food on Christmas Eve…
Yum!
…and a wonderful Christmas! Not sure how excited you can get some dogs for Christmas, but ours seem to know! They were so excited and were sitting pretty for their presents! Ha ha!
I had made myself a bean heat pad and discovered that Hoya and Clyde loved it! Clyde for his arthritic back and Hoya just likes the warmth! So I made each of them one for Christmas!
Now all that’s left is the clean up and looking forward to next year! Hope y’all had a wonderful Christmas!

  1. Your home looks very beautiful and festive for the Holiday's, as it usually does. I also like your star you made. Very creative! 😊 And your Christmas cards look like they turned out really nice. Hope you have a wonderful 2015!
