The other day I was laying in bed and this recipe popped into my head. Ever happen to you? Some of my best ideas come when I least expect them!
We had gone to a burger joint a few weeks ago and I had this amazing guacamole burger! But, as usual, it was huge…I could only eat half of it! And it was loaded with calories! But the best things usually are. *sigh*
So I decided to try to make a lighter version without sacrificing the flavor! Ok, this is probably not as mouth-watering as a big juicy burger, but it is damn good! The bacon helps add a savoriness that you generally don’t get in a turkey burger! 🙂
Ingredients Print this recipe!
1 T. dried onion flake
1 T. dried parsley
2 tsp Season-All
1 tsp pepper
2 cloves garlic, pressed
pinch of salt
handful of bacon pieces (not bacon bits! The “real” bacon pieces. Find it by the bacon bits and salad dressing)
1 ripe avocado
Hamburger buns of your choice
condiments of your choice (tomato, lettuce, ketchup, pickle, mustard, onion…etc.)
Directions
Combine all ingredients, except avocado, in a bowl and mix by hand.
Pull off clumps of meat to form into patties. The portion size for protein for an adult per meal is about 3 oz, so I made my patties small…about the size of my palm. You can see my 1lb of meat turned into 6 patties. However, you can make large 1/4 pound patties if you want, which would be 4 patties per pound.
Grill the burgers until fully cooked. Since this is turkey, it must be cooked well-done. This takes about 7 minutes.
If you want to toast your buns, just spray the insides lightly with cooking spray and put them on the hot grill for a little bit.
Then load up your burger! I opted out for cheese, but add it if you must! The important part is the sliced avocado on top! You can also mash up the avocado and spread it on the bun if you wish. Which I may do next time cause these things do not like to stay together!
| Blurry! Sorry! |
Serve with any side you’d like! I chose some oven fries! This brings the calorie count for the burger (just as shown with no cheese) from about 1000 (from the restaurant version) to just below 400! So enjoy it! 🙂
| Sorry about these photos! Sometimes I am really concerned with having great looking pictures….this was not one of those times! 😉 |
