Do you BB?

I’m sure by now everyone has heard of the BB Cream craze. If not, let me fill you in. BB Cream is a 7-in-1 (depending the brand) cosmetic that combines a foundation, anti-aging complexes, and sunscreen all in one product. From Maybelline:

“BB creams combine skincare + makeup in 1 simple step

8-in-1 Skin Perfector:

• Blurs imperfections

• Brightens

• Evens skin tone

• Smoothes

• Hydrates

• Enhances

• Protects with SPF 30

• 0% oils and heavy ingredients”

Nearly every major make-up brand has their own version of this popular cream, and Oil of Olay has a CC Cream version. I have tried 4 of these creams, and each one is a little different. Bottom of my list is the Clinique Age Defense BB Cream. This cream was very thick and did not blend well. It was also a bit orange for my complexion. I tried the Garnier Miracle Skin Perfecter BB Cream too. I like the consitancy of it, but even in their lightest shade, it is too orange for my skin. I have the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream and I use it fairy often. It is really light and blends well, but the coverage is not so great. I have to wear 2 coats to cover my discolorations. The last one I have is the L’oreal Youth Code BB Cream, which is my favorite. This cream offers amazing coverage and is still very light. It also makes my fine lines less pronounced. My problem with it is that it contains chemical sunscreen, which irritates my sensitive skin. I can only wear it for about 2 days before my skin starts reacting with dry bumps and irritating peeling that I can not get rid of! 😦 I love this cream, but it just doesn’t work for me.

I would like to try others, but I can’t keep buying whole tubes and have them not be worth it. So, I’m wondering if anyone has tried a BB cream that you would, or would not recommend? I would be interested in hearing your review!

And since we are discussing beauty and makeup, let me tell you about my new favorite thing! It’s a Beauty Blender! Have you heard of this? Have you used it? I honestly don’t know how I got along without it all these years! I saw it online in a makeup tutorial video on YouTube. It is amazing! I always had issues with my coverup streaking or having lines in it, caking in my pores, dry skin, or lines, and just being a pain in the butt to get it to look like…skin! I previously used the disposable makeup wedge sponges. You know the ones I’m talking about…you can buy a bag of them next to the cotton balls. Anyway…they tend to smear and, although I find they are better than using my fingers, I was still not super happy with the application. This Beauty Blender is a sponge, but it’s a different texture, feel, shape…everything! First, it’s reusable. There is a cleanser you can buy (or just buy the kit when you get your first one like I did!)to wash it everyday. You can use it dry or use it damp…I’ve tried both and both are amazing! This is like being airbrushed! Not kidding! I have a magnified mirror and I could not even see the makeup on my face! No streaks, no building up in my porse and lines. I don’t know what causes it to be so different, but it is…and I LOVE it! (Tip: if you are thinking about getting one of these, you can get it on Amazon for cheaper than their online store). Let me know if you end up getting one and love it too! (if you don’t love it, keep that shit to yourself! ;))

  1. I bought the Garnier BB cream and I've used it approximately 3 times. I don't like the coverage of it…or lack of I should say! It's too dark for my light complexion and I broke out within a few days of using it. I've been wanting to try another brand, but was too scared that I would end up with another full bottle of product that will sit on my bathroom counter, unused. After your reviews, I might just have to get the L'oreal brand and try that one out. I too have sensitive skin, so I'm a little curious to see if I'll get the bumps and peeling. NOW…about this Beauty Blender…this sounds like a MUST HAVE! I've never seen/heard of it before! Thanks for the reviews! 🙂

  2. Hmmm I haven't heard of the BB stuff. Then again, I haven't done much shopping for myself lately:( I'm always weary of too many things-in-one. I don't think there's a miraculous product that can do it all. Sorry to hear about your sensitivity to chemical sunscreen. Zinc oxide is usually what is the physical sunscreen, but if you use too much, it can leave you looking pasty white. Ok if you then put foundation over it.

  3. Sometimes what I do it put on a light layer of the Maybelline that does not cover very well, then follow with the L'Oreal. This seems to create a barrier so it doesn't irritate my skin, but then I still get great coverage.
